Bachelor of Music in Musicology


The Department of Musicology and Humanities of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias brings together specialists from different musicology sectors, offering students a wide range of academic possibilities aimed at their comprehensive education.

This specialization’s career options include musical research, specialized critique, management, media and teaching.

According to data from the Spanish Statistical Office (INE), this profession has an employment rate of 90.7%.

At the end of their studies, the Music Graduate in the Specialisation of Musicology should have the following skills:

  • Know the musical structure of the works of different repertoires of the Western tradition and of other traditions, and be able to fully assess its syntactic and acoustic aspects.
  • Know the artistic, historical and social conditions in which musical creation and interpretative practice have developed.
  • Know musical materials, historical and modern composition techniques, musical instruments, their construction, their acoustics, as well as other organological characteristics.
  • Master one or more instruments appropriate to their main field of expertise.
  • Be acquainted with musical sources and their access tools, as well as the necessary techniques for their diffusion.
  • Know the methods of scientific research that are specific to their specialisation field and its applications.
  • Acquire the critical capacity to assess the products of musical activity of different eras from a perspective integrating artistic, historical and social aspects.
  • Argue and express their points of view in writing and orally, as well as meeting the challenge of making it easier to understand musical works.
